This particular blog is also a part-time photoblog.

And yes, this is a sequelae of the Friendster blog.

What is Merdeka to you?

What do you think Malaysians do on the morning of the 50th Independence Day, when they couldn't go to all the hype and happening gatherings at Dataran Merdeka (with all the heat strokes, shoulder-to-shoulder contacts and sweaty armpits) other than watching it on t.v.?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

They play BADMINTON, Malaysia's national sport!
I'm not being Un-Patriotic, but hey, at least this is healthier compared to having to endure the hot sun at 10 am and smelling un-favourable odours at Dataran Merdeka.
_______________________________________________________________

I was looking out of the window this morning, looking at the blue sky (nice weather today!) when the thought came, how do the newly-declared citizens of Malaya felt 50 years ago on this very day, what do they expect the next 50 years would carry.

Are we to feel the same way too today like them, what would the next 50 years of Malaysia bring? Confrontations? More hoohahs on NEP and the racial (and religion) biasness? Will there be any change to the education and social system? Or will there be a new age colonialization by outer forces of evil? Will Malaysia still be the melting pot of various races, and not the emphasis of a particular race?

I wonder what would Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Sabanathan and Tan Cheng Lock say, seing the state of Malaysia today.

Would they be proud of the fast-tracked development and the boasted achievements we held high?

Or would they shake their heads, seing the social contract they worked so hard to create, being stepped on and ignored by the children of Today?

Let's not forget how Malaya first come to reach her independence, how the liberal Tunku and his NATION-MATES forged the word Merdeka on the 31st of August, 50 years ago.

How Malaya endured the tumultous communist era, the confrontations, how Malaysia was formed through all this, the black May 13 we went through (with the flying kerises), the sudden development charges and opening of new townships and cities, the survivability through the 97's financial crises, and finally how everything combined to come to this day.

I won't ignore that the racial cards were played throughout these 50 years, but it wasn't the emphasis on races that were the X factor to how we survived, but it was how we break through that race-label barrier and maintain a steady 'give and take' system.

I still hear stories of how a rare group of Malays during the May 13 shelter their Chinese friends from being burned by their own people, and in another part of the country, some Chinese kind-heartedly provide basic necessities to impoverished Malay families affected by the accident.

Why can't we learn from this today? Why still maintain the column 'Bangsa' in our official forms when all of us anyways, are Bangsa : Malaysia?

Why not stop saying, oh, I'm a Melanau, Malay, Chinese, Indian when we can simply say, I'm a Malaysian? Aren't we created by the same God, and equally for that matter?

So... HAPPY 50th Merdeka, people of Malaysia!

It's a pleasure to live on this land and with you people out there from the day I was born.

What's Your Reputation at Hogwarts? (26 different characters)

Kind Slytherin (Trapped In The Right House For The Wrong Reasons):
House: Slytherin
Best Friend(s): Draco, Blaise, and Cedric.
Gryffindors
Harry: Isn't friends with you, but wishes he was.
Ron: Asked you to stay at his house for the summer, claiming it was part of a "school experiment".
Hermione: Admires your ability to break free from common school steroetypes.
Oliver Wood: Has had a crush on you ever since you came to one of his Quidditch games wearing Gryffindor colors (the match wasn't against Slytherin, though).
Fred and George Weasley: Aren't you're close friends, but not distant ones either. You hang out with each other during school, but not over summer.
Seamus Finnigan: Tries to impress you so that you'll like him.
Neville Longbottom: Wishes Ginny were as kind as you are.
Dean Thomas: Doesn't know you very well, but still likes your companionship.
Ginny Weasley: Thinks that if you were her friend, she would be more popular than ever (so she's constantly and annoyingly by your side).
Parvati Patil: Laughs at your jokes and comments even when they're not directed anywhere near her.
Padma Patil: Wonders if she would be like you if she were in Slytherin.
Hufflepuffs
Cedric Diggory: Met you when he was in third year when he accidently bumped into you and knocked you down. He was surprised when you apologized, and ever since you've been almost inseperable.
Ravenclaws
Cho Chang: Doesn't know that you're kind because she avoids you.
Slytherins
Draco Malfoy: Envies that you know how to express your feelings to everyone. He wishes you would teach him to be more like you, even if he doesn't act like it on the outside. He tried to ask you out once, but you weren't falling for his slick charm (you know him better than anyone else).
Crabbe: Only knows who you are because of Draco's rantings.
Goyle: Same as Crabbe.
Pansy Parkinson: Thinks you're a disgrace to the house of Slytherin.
Marcus Flint: Worships the ground you walk on.
Blaise Zabini: Is your best friend after you spilled your heart out to him outside near the lake. He found it amazing that you hated to be judged and disliked only because you were in Slytherin. Recently, he's tried to get you to notice that he wants to be more than your friend, but you never notice because Cedric or Oliver always manage to steal you away.
Teachers
Dumbledore: Is extremely proud of the way you've handled your situation.
Professor McGonagall: Doesn't know you very well, but sees past the stereotype of your house and treats you kindly.
Professor Flitwick: Admires your skills in his subject.
Professor Trelawney: Secretly hates that you are more liked than she is.
Professor Snape: Adores you, even though you aren't cruel and evil.
Filch: Ignores you because he's jealous of you're popularity.

In the face of adversity

WARNING! Horrid-side-of-me flaming on people post coming up! If you cannot stand swear words or refuse to see the bad side of me, please kindly type another url add up there or click back, okay?

___________________________________________________________________

Daily assignments, weekly presentations, daily sarcasms and criticisms, depressing tests, replacement lectures on weekends, crazy biased lecturers and clinicians, weird sleep timings...

That's when in final year, the real side of some people start to show up, the evil a.k.a. alter ego side. Some people start to be snobbish, start to be bossy and irritating, SELFISH is the word of the day.

I feel like saying "Fuck YOU" and wave the middle finger in front of them. Nice to see their reaction similar to being slapped on the face. *evil grin*

I just don't understand of the stupid attitude of these people. They prefer to take and take and take, but never give. No matter how hard I tried to be nice and give as much as I can for the benefit of all, COOPERATION was NEVER in their mind. And at the end of the day, I'll be the one to be blamed, not themselves.

I feel like knocking their heads with a rock, "COME ON! If I'm not there to help you, then who else will be doing it?!? You your ownself said you cannot do it, and yet when I did help but something do turn out wrong at your own fault, you still blame me?!?!
CERMINKAN DIRI SENDIRI HOI! TAKDE KEMALUAN DIRI KA HAR?!?".

Even people who were close to me were surprised when I blew my top off yesterday. That shows how much patience I have until someone decided," Oh! Why not I step on her head? She won't mind anyway".

Fuck you bitch. Wake up! You think you can boss me around? So this is your real attitude har??! No wonder people start to complain about you of all people! So you think you are as smart then ha, as smart as the lecturers and clinicians? Then explain to me, smart-ass, why do you still ended up repeating some of the classes we all managed to score high grades ha?

It's just no use talking to this kind of people. It's just like banging the rock on an empty tong sampah, smell of rotten fish. What I want is a final year to remember the good times for, not idiots like this.

RAWr... Hrrmph...

To survive in this world, we hold close to us those people on whom we depend.
We trust in them our hopes, our fears.
But what happens when trust is lost?
Where do we run when things we believe in vanish before our eyes?
When all seems lost, the future unknowable, our very existence in peril... all we can do is run.

I *heart* Malaysia Part 5

OK... 9 more to go...Cannot procrastinate anymore.

9. Is it me or is this country full of slow-down bumps on the road? At least it stopped those idiotic pelumba motor kapcai haram from racing around my flat making super duper noises and making me lose my sleep. Thank God for Malaysian road bumps and I mean it! (though some idiots tend to vandalize the signboard lah, you Malaysians should know what I mean)

8. Thank you Malaysia for the likes of Yasmin Ahmad, Michelle Yeoh, Nicole David, Wong Mei Choo and Wong Choong Han. These are the people who stood up on their own feet, being famous world wide and made us proud whilst being humble at the same time. Yeah, especially Nicole and Yasmin. Salute 'em.

7. Rain, lots of rain. Yes, despite us complaining about the rain spoiling our day or the floods coming up, rain is like heaven especially with the hot hazy tropical weather now. So thank God for rain.

6. Malaysian radiowaves with an amalgamation of songs that are either English, Malay, Indian, Chinese can do serious hypnosis on your brain. Yesterday I came down from the RapidKL bus, humming and drumming to the Indian song that was playing and the Malay bus driver was tapping on his steering wheel to the beat of the same song too.

5. Again, like those imported English childhood stories, we have the local children stories, like the Pak Pandir series, Hang Nadim, and stories that always, always involve names like Abu, Ah Chong and Siva, or Pak Lebai and his wife.

4. Malaysian Mega Sales annual triple series! 20, 30 or even up to 70% discounts! Enuff said... :D

3. Scaling mountains, island hopping, backpacking through the jungles, swimming in beautiful waterfalls, boating through rivers, wading through underground streams in humongous caves; and that is just a handful of the natural beauties Malaysia can offer!

2. My roots are here. Though my ancestors' origin were the islands of Polynesia (yeah, read up about the chronicles of how the Melanaus came to Sarawak in the first place) and my grandfather was an immigrant from China, my roots have gone too deep and long down here, that being in another country just seemed... wrong. Despite all the misgivings of this country, yes, my roots belonged here.

1. I am born here. I have a country that is called my own. Isn't that something we always take for granted?

Now all that is done...

I just saw Reza, my DVM senior on 8tv! And showing off what he loves the most, wrestling with crocodiles on camera! Woot!

I *heart* Malaysia Part 4

Aiyoyo... Lost my pace on this one. Plus am going to have the 1st Equine Disease tomorrow and I haven't even flipped through a single page of the handouts! 5 years of bloody exam just took out the life of studying early for 'em... Sigh~ -_-' . Rather love playing around and end up studying last minute for the past 2 years :D

Anyways.... Continuing on with why I still *heart* Malaysia despite all the 'goblokness' and the trashing of bloggers by monkeys up there. Hmmm....

19. Eating loads and loads of local fruits picked with your own hands. My rotation group went for a visit to a small-time duck farm, passed by the university's neglected rambutan orchard and ended up doing 'fruit' rotation by picking up (with the lecturer and his post-graduate Utopian student again!!! WAHAHHAHAHA) 8 filled-to-the-brim plastic bags of rambutans. Not only that, we went cempedak (jack fruit) picking again! Wohohoho... And after savouring these, we opened up durians in the carpark next to the forestry faculty and immediately after that, eating up mangosteens my rotation mate brought in her car. The only fruits missing are the longans and buah mata kucings. Man.. I love Malaysian fruits... Oh wait, did I mentioned Malaysian fruits in my previous post?

18. I love Malaysia's version of the Domestic Short Hair cats. At least their tempers are not as evil as those pure-breeds (especially Persians.. Oh the horror!). And their tails curled up into little balls or the ends looked like a little hook. Like my little Mimi...

17. Ipoh White Coffee. Never had enough of it, especially that lingering taste on your tongue. Remembered I kept pestering Ah Teh to bring me back packets of iced White Coffee from Ipoh while doing my poultry practical in Dinding's Breeder Broiler Farm. Though ended up being the faithful visitor to the toilet due to the extremely efficient diuretic effect of caffeine...

16. Maggie Mee. The ever faithful instant mee in my box especially when pockets are empty but with a few beetles and tissue in it (memang student life la). Can even buy one packet for 60 cents! Plus the culinary variety you can add to a simple instant mee. Mamak-style maggie goreng la, curry mee with egg and fried tofu, mi bandung with the simple mixture of tomato sauce, etc.. It's Malaysian made rite? Even the ones imported to Britain still have their Malay instructions!

15. Lekors, pisang goreng, cempedak goreng. Yammm..... Stomach fillers especially when studying or having group discussions in the afternoon in faculty. Can even bring to the wards too! (though illegally and hush hush la)

14. Driving through the kampongs and rural areas and seeing delicous kangkongs growing wildly by the stream or rivers. And thinking how to cook them; belacan, sambal or oyster sauce?

I've been posting too much about food. Have... to... change... topic...

13. Like the U.S. with their Social Security Number, we have our IC numbers, and plus got MyKad again. Unique mah...

12. Despite the dryness and the extreme boringness of the Sejarah subject (self-professed Sejarah 5-years snorer here!), I find Malaysia's history abit intriguing and unique, especially when it comes to policy making and the factors that influence it. And how it ended up in our laws, culture and society today. And the factors and historical incidences that are not included in today's Sejarah SPM or PMR books. So sedih to think of people not bothering to look back in the past and scrutinize the reasons for the existence of certain policies or statements by the past leaders like the late Tunku and making a fool of themselves today.

11. Farni local telcos adverts. Not enough with the global stalking, now there's even training camps for stalkers?!? (refering to Digi yellow-man adverts la)

10. Local nursery songs together with those imported from the English. Like 'Tip tap tip tap, hujan dah turun' or 'Dayung, dayung sampan' or 'Burung kakak tua'. Not forgetting some of the songs in native languages and dendangan pantuns. Remembered hearing old pantuns played on one local Sarawak radio station every late Saturday night and my dad will be hearing and writing down the lyrics...

9 more to go! Going into the home stretch aredi!
